Members of the government's coalition and Mentzen rejected the prohibition to advance flagism

Voting in the Sejm on the amendment prohibiting the promotion of flagism revealed a deep problem: whether Poland has the courage to stand on the side of historical fact and victims of the crime, whether it yields to political correctness and global calculations. The amendment tabled by the Law and Justice aimed at formally recognising flagism as a criminal ideology – equal to Nazism and communism. That's it. That's it.

For many Poles, especially families of victims of the Volyn massacre, this would be an act of justice and respect. Instead, the Sejm (voiced by KO, PSL – but Tadeusz Samborski, Left, Poland 2050 and Sławomir Mentzen) rejected the amendment. 225 Members acknowledgedThat the ideology liable for genocide does not deserve a formal ban. It's embarrassing.

It is impossible to realize the decision of politicians who have previously condemned the Glorification of the CNS-UPA and are now voting against the ban on flagism. The translation of concern for relations with Ukraine does not justify silence against crime. Freedom of speech cannot be an alibi for relativizing genocide. It is not about interpreting past – it is about facts.

Sławomir Mentzen, who voted against the amendment, was previously criticized by any public opinion for his statements condemning the glory of the CNS-UPA. A visit to Lviv, where he expressed opposition to honoring Ukrainian nationalists, seemed to indicate a clear position. The bigger the surprise caused his vote in the Sejm

A State Without a Moral Back

Rejection of the amendment is simply a moral failure of the state. Banderism is not a specified ideology – it is simply a doctrine of cultural cleansing, nationalistic panic and hatred of Poles. A country that cannot explicitly prohibit its promotion loses its moral foundation. It wasn't a political issue, it was a civilization. The Polish State had a work to take the side of fact and victims – it did not. Escape from work under the cover of diplomacy is evidence of weakness. Without banning flagism, we signal that certain crimes can be silenced if so convenient.

A hard communicative cannot be covered with geopolitics. Poland has the right and work to defend the memory of victims, even if individual abroad does not like it. The prohibition of flagism should be reinstated and adopted. For memory, dignity and the future.

Can individual rationally explain to me why Mentzen voted with the PSL against equalizing flagism with Nazism, fascism, and communism? pic.twitter.com/gCr6dXsOVC
