15 February After Mass in the garrison church of St. Barbara, a solemn tribute was given to the Ciemnym – the elite of the Polish underground army – laying flowers and lighting candles under the monument of the “Gliwický Ciemnym”. The ceremony was attended by Sagittarius of the Republic in the company of Colonel Piotr Tadeusiak, Head of the Military Recruitment Centre in Gliwice and the Gliwice Polish paper Club.
On the night of 15 to 16 February 1941, there was the first drop of 3 quiet, on the land of Cieszyn close M. Dębowiec, 138 km in front of the planned site. Despite the trouble, the parachutists reached Warsaw and performed their tasks. Our monument “Gliwicki Ciemny” includes 6 National Army paratroopers associated with Gliwice. By December 1944, 316 paratroopers, diversion specialists, communications, guerrilla combat and others reached the occupied country. The anniversary of the first drop became their holiday. The silent are a model for commandos and peculiar Forces.
