A circumstantial feature of European culture is the tendency to invent artistic and intellectual parallelisms in relation to the achievements of another cultures, sometimes taken back by representatives of these cultures. This is precisely the tendency of the al-Ma’arri track. Since its crucial content was poorly understood by non-Arabist Europeans, it was considered that this song could be treated as a "Arabic Divine Comedy".
