On Friday evening, Marco Rubio published an entry on X: "Germany has just granted its spy agency fresh powers to analyse the opposition. This is not democracy – it is tyranny in disguise".

He added: "The real extremism is not the popular AfD – which ranked second in the last election – but alternatively the deadly immigration policy of the open borders, which the AfD opposes". Finally, he made an appeal "Germany should change course".
The case was besides commented by U.S. Vice president J.D. Vance, who wrote that "AfD is the most popular organization in Germany and by far the most typical for East Germany". In his opinion, "now bureaucrats are trying to destruct it."
"The West demolished the Berlin Wall together. And it was rebuilt – not by Soviets or Russians, but by German establishment" – indicated Vance.
The German abroad Ministry responded rapidly to Rubio's words: "This is democracy. This decision is the consequence of a thorough and independent investigation to defend our Constitution and the regulation of law. These independent courts will have the last word."
And it added, "We have learned from our past that right-wing extremism must be stopped."
As DW reported, the German counterintelligence—the national Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV)— qualified the AfD organization as definitely far right. The suspicion that the organization is pursuing action against free democratic order has been confirmed and strengthened in key areas.
"The ethnic-original party's dominant knowing of the nation is not in line with the free democratic primary order," BfV stated. The aim is to exclude certain groups of the population from equal participation in society.
"In concrete terms, AfD considers, for example, that German citizens with a migrant background from Muslim countries are not equal members of the German people according to the cultural definition advocated by the party," states the message of the national intelligence agency.
The statements and positions of the organization and leading representatives of AfD violate the rule of human dignity – stated Vice Presidents BfV Sinan Selen and Silke Willems. This is decisive for the current evaluation of the organization by counterintelligence.
