A fresh government is being formed in Germany. The CDU/CSU and SPD parties have signed a coalition agreement. Friedrich Merz from the CDU is to become chancellor. The coalition partners are announcing investments of 500 billion euros and changes in defence financing. The fresh cabinet could be sworn in on May 7.
