Former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, who has been in close relations with Russia and its leader Vladimir Putin for years, is visiting Moscow - the German media reported on Wednesday.
In turn, AfD politicians talked in St. Petersburg about restarting the Nord Stream pipelines.
According to tv stations RTL and ntv their correspondent saw Schroeder on Tuesday at the Moscow Hotel Kempinski.
The weekly portal “Spiegel” stressed that the erstwhile Chancellor is considered Putin's friend and even after Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, he worked for Russian energy companies.
As recalled, Putin announced at a press conference in the Kremlin, after the triumph Day celebration on May 9, that he could imagine Schroeder as a possible mediator in negotiations with Europeans about ending the war in Ukraine. This thought was rejected by European countries and Ukraine.
