Georgescu had previously been charged with six crimes, including spreading false information, as part of an investigation into the illegal financing of his election run last fall. The politician has already received 60-day parole, which limits his moves under court control.
"I will definitely run in the presidential election. We humans are strength, we are Romania. We will not kneel," Georgescu said to his supporters coming out of the lawyer General's Office, the conversation was broadcast online on social networks.
He stressed that bringing him to the General Prosecutor's Office was political force from the ruling coalition. "The full planet is now watching what is happening in Romania with this system. On 6 December (on the day of the cancellation of the presidential election – ed.) we were made a large favour. (Politic) corruption was shown on the Internet," Georgescu said.
Commenting on the results of the parliamentary elections, the politician said that all polls indicated that the Alliance for the Unity of Romanians (AUR) would win the majority of the votes, but erstwhile calculating the results, he thought there was an election fraud. "This position has shown that the strategy works as long as it can. But he's in the final stage. The parliamentary elections in Romania were held on 1 December, and residents of the country elected members of the Chamber of Deputies and legislature for the next 4 years.
