"I have fever, cough and chills. But I don't take L4 due to the fact that I don't want to be that person in the band," says the hero of popular TikTok, who collected tens of thousands of sages. Under the comments: “I do, too”, “I do not want to disappoint the team”, “L4 is for boomers”. Today, many young workers fear public evaluation in the event of illness. In a planet where wellness has besides become a social assessment, even a cold can origin stress.

New Form of force – L4-shaming

From the survey Opinion24, commissioned Radamed Medical Center, it appears that as many as 28% of those aged 18-24 and 30% of those aged 25-35 effort to treat themselves despite symptoms of infection. Reason? Medical dismissal is inactive seen as avoiding duties, not responsibility.

What prevents young people from taking L4? Fear of a superior reaction affects 17% of those in the 18-24 and 26% of 25-34-year-olds. In turn, 15% of younger people and 14% of older people fear that they will fall out of the rhythm of work, and 17% of younger and 26% of older people are afraid of the financial problems associated with L4. As many as a 3rd of the young people say that they do not feel sick adequate to take advantage of the release.

– This is simply a classical example of L4-shaming, or social belief that a advanced fever or a certificate from the SOR should be earned for rest. Meanwhile, a modern approach to wellness is prevention, not heroism on open space – says Maciej Mazurek, founder of Radamed.

Effects of working despite symptoms

The force to stay out of the rhythm of work, the concerns about the reactions of the bosses and colleagues in the squad make an atmosphere where L4 is treated as a sign of weakness. In addition, the younger generation is increasingly exposed to the so-called. Hustle culture– i.e. continuous action, deficiency of remainder and work. In this atmosphere, even if they feel symptoms of illness, younger people frequently decide to proceed their work, fearing that any break on L4 will be considered lazy.

– The results of the survey show that the younger generation frequently ignores the symptoms of the disease, which may lead to its worsening. Self-treatment may fail, and delayed implementation of treatment is associated with a hazard of complications that may affect productivity at work. Moreover, the disease, which could have been rapidly controlled, can become longer and more serious. Therefore, medical release, even in the case of mild symptoms, is reasonable due to the fact that it prevents further spread of the infection and protects the syndrome from epidemics – adds the doctor cooperating with Radamed.

Instead of heroism, hygiene and technology

Although the younger generation reluctantly chooses L4, it appreciates modern medical solutions. According to the study, 79% of people aged 18-24 consider teleporady to be a convenient tool that allows you to consult your doctor quickly. Over 70% of respondents want even more availability of telemedicine, and 45% accept the anticipation of e-release during online consultations.

“ Telemedicine is becoming popular due to the fact that younger people are looking for quick, convenient solutions. Teleporada gives them the chance to respond rapidly to the wellness problem, without having to quit their occupation or leave home. E-release is just 1 of the many facilities that aid keep the balance between work and wellness – explains Maciej Mazurek.

Case study: Julia, 24 – 15 minutes that made the difference

Julia, a 24-year-old UX-designer from Gdańsk, tells how liable she made the decision to take L4, despite earlier concerns. “I always had doubts, but this time I decided to usage the teleporade. This allowed me to be released in 15 minutes and avoid the hazard of spreading the virus at work. I acted responsibly, both for myself and for others.”

L4 before you sneeze on the full open space

Generation Z redefines the approach to wellness and work. More and more young people see the value of taking care of themselves, and telemedicine gives them a tool to respond rapidly and effectively. L4 ceases to be seen as an excuse, and becomes a conscious choice that affects the well-being of the full team.
