Political disturbance around SAFE
Donald Tusk's government talks about the SAFE programme as the biggest success of the Polish Presidency in the European Union. The numbers truly make an impression: it is PLN 184 billion for the armament and modernization of the Polish Army. The loans are low-interest, and we will be able to repay them until 2070. Meanwhile, right now we request a financial boost to be ready to defy an enemy attack.
And while there seemed to be a consensus around safety issues, in the past week it turned out that polarization was winning over common sense in terms of SAFE. president Karol Nawrocki began with a full-blown speech on the National safety Council, after which on Thursday a full-scale run attacking the program brought together PiS and Confederacy.
General Pacek: past will not forgive us for this
Is it possible that Karol Nawrocki is seriously considering vetoing the SAFE Programme Act and blowing up the full multibillion-dollar project? We asked General Bogusław Pack about the possible consequences of specified a decision. It would be a very bad decision if it did. I do not believe that the president of the Republic, whatever he may be, will make specified a decision, due to the fact that past would not forgive us this – says the general at rest, presently manager of the Polish Military Museum.
General Pacek points out that in fresh years the Polish state has spent tremendous money on reinforcements, and that the money from the SAFE programme would give the budget the breath awaited. – Without this program, our defence strategy will, of course, proceed to be improved, but not as effective as with SAFE. $190 billion for a country like ours is large money. And since the needs are immense too, it is apparent to me that it is the usage of this program – the general emphasizes.
According to General Pack, the SAFE program will let to strengthen Polish possible and drive out our home defence industry. – Experience from Ukraine only reminds us of what experts, generals have known for a long time. To defend yourself effectively, in order to effectively repel the enemy, you request not only planes and tanks, but above all you request to have your own ammunition, your own servicing, you request to have close everything within scope of the front, within scope of the battlefield – says General NaTemat.pl.
– In view of the above, as if we did not love the United States or South Korea, it is not a good thought to proceed to the degree that this has been the case for the last fewer decades, but to shift sources of weapons, weapons, equipment, equipment – says Bogusław Pacek.
The opposition loudly criticises the SAFE program, claiming that it was mainly created to fill the pockets of Germany. And that the provisions concerning the precedence participation of the Polish manufacture are unclear and can be utilized by abroad capital.
"It was the United States that showed us how to proceed"
Meanwhile, General Pacek believes that by launching the SAFE program, we are de facto fulfilling the demands made by Donald Trump's camp. "It is the United States of North America that has already pointed out to us that this is what we are going to do, due to the fact that it is the US that said that Europe must have the capacity to defend itself more and that there is much to show that the anticipation may be that Europe will gotta defend itself at all. If Europe is to defend itself or to be more capable of its own defence, there is no another way to defend itself, specified as production, equipment, ammunition in Europe," says erstwhile Rector of the National Defence Academy in an interview with NaTemat.pl.
The government wants SAFE to be a priority: armored equipment, air defense, Shield East, ammunition, replenishment of deficiencies in the air force and acquisition of capacity to refuel in the air. And besides focusing on innovation and modern fighting techniques. The program assumes instant purchases, as it excludes backing after 2030.
