In Gdańsk there was a solemn anniversary of the commemoration of Danuta Kodkówny "Inki" and Felix Selmanowicz "Zagończyk", soldiers of the National Army shot by communist authorities on 28 August 1946. Local politicians, scouts, supporters of respective clubs, families of members of the underground of independency and representatives of the Institute of National Memory came to the necropolis.
The advisor of the president of Poland, Karol Nawrocki, Jan Józef Kasprzyk, read a peculiar letter from the president to the participants of the ceremony. In his letter, the president stressed the importance of preserving the memory of the heroes of the fight against communism.
The President's words about the memory of the Damned
"We, the spiritual heirs of the Cursed, have regained collective memory of the heroes of our freedom, but at the same time we have accepted a commitment to cultivate this still-explored fact about them and to pass on to the successors" - wrote president Nawrocki. He added that Poles are "called for permanent and final restoration of dignity to Danuta Kodkównie, Felix Selmanowicz and many others sentenced by communists to death and erased from collective memory".
The president besides pointed out that the initiative of celebrations on the anniversary of the shooting of "Inka" and "Zagończyk" deserves the highest recognition. Thanks to specified commemorations, soldiers of the Polish anti-communist underground regain their rightful place in the consciousness of the nation.
Speech by the head of IPN
P.o. president of the Institute of National Memory, Dr. Karol Polejowski, referred to the celebrated poem by Zbigniew Herbert, saying that the communicative was about soldiers cursed deafly silent. "They were to vanish from the memory of the Polish nation. The places of their burial at the bottom of death were to stay forever unknown and hidden" - emphasised Polejowski.
However, he added that "the memory of the righteous people, as we heard in the letter of the president of the Republic of Karol Nawrocki, survived among the closest and among those who did not let their love for Poland rip off." This memory continued throughout the period of communist slavery.
Conduct of the ceremony
Participants of the ceremony placed flowers under a memorial board murdered in a prison at Kurkowa Street in Gdańsk. They then attended the Holy Mass at St. John Bosco Church in Gdańsk-Oruni.
