Marek Dyżewski – an outstanding musician, composer, pianist, essayist specialising in music and patriotic themes, translator, academic lecturer. From 1990 to 1994, he was the rector of the Wroclaw Academy of Music. He taught lectures at all Polish music colleges, respective universities and seminars, conferences and workshops accompanying crucial musical events. He has besides been a guest lecturer in Bonn, Nuremberg, Hamburg, Berlin, Ghent, Brussels, Saint Petersburg, Nice, Paris, Vienna and Washington. In his speeches, he shows musical phenomena seen in a broad context of culture, i.e. in connection with another fields of art, as well as with philosophy, aesthetics and anthropology. Working with Polish Radio, he created works of radio art, which for their innovative form and outstanding artistic qualities received a number of awards and twice represented Polish radio on the planet radio art forum Prix Italia. Both on tv and radio, he commented on the biggest global music events held in Poland: the global Oratory-Cantata Festival "Wratislavia Cantans", the Grzegorz Fitelberg global Conducting Competition, the Henryk Wieniawski global Violin Competition and the Fryderyk Chopin global Piano Competition. Commentary service of the Chopin Competition The Polish Radio Programme Council considered the "air event of the year". He is the author of cited translations (from Latin, French, German, Spanish and Italian). The medieval liturgical drama “Ludus Danielis” in his literary adaptation (based on the Latin text from the Cathedral of Beauvais) was played by the Teatr Wielki in Warsaw – on the phase of this theatre and on many European scenes. He was the creator and for sixteen years artistic head of the Days of Old Masters Music, an global festival held in Wrocław. He was awarded the Wrocław City Award twice (1987, 1994). For outstanding achievements in the field of sacral music in 2003, he was awarded the St. Brother Albert Award. Animator of the cultural and musical life of Wrocław, a large patriot and socialist (participation and introduction to many concerts, among others, during the Oratoryno - Cantata Festival Wratislavia Cantans or conducting extraordinary lectures, including the cycle of Collegium Musicum). In 2013/2014/2015/2016 he conducted in Warsaw series of lectures richly illustrated by works of music: “Music embedded in the destiny of the nation”, “Gods of fact in the glow of beauty”. In 2015, he commented, twice all day, on the full course of the Chopin competition from the National Philharmonic Bullets. Marek Dyżewski is simply a unique format, always independent and demanding of himself and others. For the sake of Homeland capable of the highest sacrifices; it teaches and mobilizes, inactive resurrecting the spirit of Polish musical imagination. In 2021, a congregation of essays by Marek Dyżewski “Save from Forgetfulness” was published by the Centre for Culture and Art in Wrocław. It is an extraordinary work, written with a stunning erudition, forcing the reader to reflect and search.
