From terrorists to partners. Russia uses the Taliban to retake Central Asia

The agreement on military-technical cooperation, signed on 27 May 2026 by Russia and Taliban-ruled Afghanistan, is another phase in the political normalisation of the movement, which until late Moscow officially classified as a terrorist organisation.
