The frigate of the Youth Gift present embarked on a cruise to the United States, where she will attend the celebrations of the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence. The sailboat will cover about 12,000 nautical miles.
The gift of Youth on Thursday after 2 p.m. left the Pomorskie Coast in Gdynia to go to fresh York City, where the "Sail4th 250" event will take place on 3-8 July. Its main point will be a parade of sailing ships and fleets scheduled for 4 July, on the day of American independency Day.
The journey to the US will be divided into 3 stages. The first will end on 10 May in Cadiz. Shipped crew and apprentices – students of the Mechanical Faculty of the Maritime University of Gdynia and students of the Marine Schools squad in Świnoujście – will visit the Isle of Man in the Irish Sea on their way to Spain.
In the second phase of the cruise, on a way from Cadiz through the Bahamas to the United States, about 120 students of the 1st year of the Navigation Division will participate in maritime practice and will affect aboard the frigate to the US.
The gift of the Youth commanded by the captain of the Vol. Michał Sadowski, along with a 33-man crew and students, will enter US ports in the second half of June, visiting Norfolk, fresh York and Boston, among others.
On July 3rd, fresh York City will start the final phase of the journey – a change of apprentices will take place. Another group of about 120 students from the 2nd year of the Navigation Division will board the Youth Gift, which will sail to Boston. From there, the unit will head back to Europe, visiting ports in the UK and Germany. The unit will return to its home port in Gdynia on August 24.
The item of the cruise will be the frigate's participation in an global sailing parade scheduled for July 4 in fresh York City.
The parade according to Sail4th will be attended by, among others, Argentine ARA Libertad, Canadian Bluenose II, Chilean Esmeralda, Colombian Gloria, Ecuadorian Guayas, German Gorch Fock, Indian INS Sudarshini, Indonesian KRI Bima Suci, Italian Amerigo Vespucci, Portuguese NRP Sagres, Spanish Juan Sebastián de Elcano and American USCGC Eagle.
This year's expedition refers to the 1976 historical journey of Daru Pomerania, which was held on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the United States. Fregata embarked on 16 April, and during the expedition participated in regattas on the Plymouth – Tenerife – Bermuda – Newport route, taking leading seats in classifications. She then visited the most crucial US ports, including fresh York, Boston, Baltimore and Philadelphia, taking part, among others, in a sailing parade on the 4th of July on the Hudson River.
