On 16 February in Milan, in the rooms of the Ambrosianeum Foundation, at the invitation of Archbishop Mario Delfini, a seminar entitled “The Catholic Church and the Masonry” took place. Grand Master of the large East of Italy (GOI) Stefano Bisi called this gathering "historical". As journalists have noted, for the first time in the past of masonry, there was a gathering of 3 large masters of the leading free-mural lodges operating on the Apenin Peninsula. Apart from the large East Lodge, representatives of the Italian Grand Lodge (ALAM) and the Italian Grand Lodge Regular took part. The Catholic Church was represented, apart from the host, by Archbishop Antonio Staglianò, Cardinal Francesco Cocopalmerie and Fr Zbigniew Suchecki, a Franciscan theologian specialising in masonry. Since 8 years ago February 14, 2016, card. Gianfranco Ravasi published an article in the Italian paper “Sole 24 ore” with a crucial title “Dear Masoni brothers”, numerous joint events organized by Masonic communities and Catholic diocesan curies began to multiply. The organizer of the Milan gathering was the Group of Socio-Religion Studies and Information (GRIS), a private association of Italian Catholics, approved by the Conference of the Italian Episcopal Conference. The seminar was held for invitations, without media participation.
