The head of the French MFA Jean-Nel Barrot reported on Monday that 2 representatives of the French embassy in Tehran were held for respective hours and intimidated.
"On Sunday morning, 2 employees of the French embassy in Iran were subject to an highly serious intimidation action by Iranian safety services" - wrote Barrot on X. He added that it was a "grossing violation of diplomatic immunity" of these people.
As the minister reported, these people were “held for a fewer hours for no reason, interrogated” and 1 of them was harassed. Later, they managed to scope the embassy and are now expecting to return to France. Barrot explained that these people are engaged in civilian society support programmes, especially scientists and Iranian artists.
"I have made it clear to the Minister of abroad Affairs of Iran that these highly serious and unacceptable violations of the immunity of our officers cannot stay without consequences," the Minister stressed. The head of Iran's MFA is Abbas Aragchi. The message on X was published during Barrot's visit to Iceland.
