It's already happening.
Since 2017, Poland has been seeking permanent bases of American troops, not just rotational ones. The first mention of "Fort Trump" was made during the visit of the president of the United States to Poland in the same year. On Monday, the head of the MON Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz informed that the investment is already being implemented in Bolesławec. The task aims to grow the infrastructure in Wrocław to guarantee the smooth functioning of the logistics facilities for the U.S. Armed Forces, while the airport in Wrocław is to act as the main cargo hub for military equipment and personnel.
Kosiniak-Kamysz stressed that the task "Fortu Trump" is not only military but besides strategic, strengthening the safety of Poland and the full region of Central and east Europe. He assured that the investment was being implemented and would be further developed. As an example of the continued presence of the U.S. troops, he identified the base in Redzikow, which he late opened with representatives of the U.S. government.
The Minister of National Defence besides revealed an estimated investment cost – the creation of a base in Bolesławec is expected to amount to about PLN 2 billion. In addition, the regional government will allocate PLN half a billion to the project, and the financing will be implemented as a joint contribution of Poland and the United States. Kosiniak-Kamysz emphasized that the task is another proof of a strong Polish-American alliance and the permanent presence of US troops in Poland.
The surprise of president Bolesławiec
Kosiniak-Kamish informed about the investment in Bolesławek respective weeks earlier, which caused the surprise reaction of the city president, Piotr Roman. In an interview with Radio, Wrocław Roman assessed:
We are dealing with a very strong recovery and an increase in global security. But for the first time I heard this Fort Trump is to be in Bolesławec. I know that in respective places Poland was expected, but this is simply a public term. I don't really know if Donald Trump knows this is Fort Trump.
