34th global Festival of Comics and Games in Łódź behind us. On 7-8 October, Atlas Arena again turned into an amazing land full of virtual and cartoon attractions. Lovers of the widely understood culture again could perceive to fantastic guests, grow their collections, or admire amazing exhibitions and costumes. We couldn't miss it this time.

The beginnings of the global Festival of Comics and Games should be sought around 1998, erstwhile they functioned in a somewhat different form, as the National Convention of Comic Makers. He grew stronger and more attention each year. present we can safely say that it is the biggest event of this kind not only in our country, but besides in all of Central and east Europe. It has long been 1 of the most crucial events for all creators, cartoonists, writers and all those in love with this form of entertainment. In 2019 there was a circular 30th edition of the festival, which was visited by nearly 20,000 people. In erstwhile editions, peculiar guests were specified celebrated drawings and animations as Kim Jung Gi, Jean Giraud, Akira Yamaoka, Henryk Jerzy Chmielewski, or Jim Lee.

As usual, organizers have prepared many fantastic surprises for participants. The programme of the festival was based on many elements, among which must definitely be distinguished peculiar zones – comic books, games, fairs, or nearly 30 smaller or larger exhibitions. Again we could besides number on the presence of cosplayers, whose efforts to prepare costumes could not stay unnoticed and underestimated. They made you feel like on any another planet for a while.

Festivals like this are a real vacation combining generations of people in love with comics and animations. As in the case of my interlocutor, Marcin Waincetel, the interest in popularizing this form of art can transform from passion into something more.

I'm an educated teacher, but I haven't taught in a year. However, I am trying to combine education with what I am doing today, which is writing about animations and comic books. I dreamed of it becoming my regular job. I grew up on DC and Marvel productions, and 1 day I found that there is no specified place on the network where we could read a small more and more professionally about animations and comics just – says Marcin Waincetel, the creator of the largest nationwide comic and animation portal, known in the environment as “Mr. Animation”.

To this day, you can hear that animations and comic books are primarily intended for a younger audience. Nothing more wrong. Culture promoters agree that this is not true, most frequently due to ignorance.

We can hear specified claims little and little often. Social reception of animation changes. We, or popularizers and creators, besides effort to rise awareness of as many people as possible. We have animations for adults, adaptations to the classics of literature and comic book. If individual says so, it's most likely due to the fact that they haven't seen besides many good animations intended for a mature audience – adds Marcin Waincetel.

As in erstwhile years, so this year the event has graced many excellent cartoonists and screenwriters not only of Poland, but of the full world. Among them were, among others, Jean-Pierre Dionnet – French writer and screenwriter, longtime editor of "Metal Hurlant" and author of the screenplay "Exterminator 17"; Gou Tanabe – author of comical adaptation of H.P. Lovecroft's works; Didier Alcante – creator of comic books and screenwriter, author of titles specified as "Pandora Box", " Bomba"; Paul Gravett – comic culture animator, author of the monograph about Tove Jansson; Emiliano Tanzillo – cartoonist and illustrator, creator of comics "Dylan Dog", Carambolla, "Smoky Knight"; Michał Szleński – author of comics "The Settlement of Swoboda, Fido and Mel, Strang Years, KDP, Red Penguin must die!, as well as Art manager and manager of respective episodes of the animated adaptation of the cult series "Kajko and Kokosz".

In the interval between meetings, you could play many celebrated and popular games, or enjoy the eye with many fantastic exhibitions. Thousands of figures of characters known from many comic books and films were awesome and effectively encouraging shopping. For many exhibitors and collectors, this is an highly crucial hobby and, as it turns out, is passed on from generation to generation.

I've been coming to festivals like this since I actually learned how to walk. First, I accompanied my dad, who exhibited his collections, then I started driving myself. I think this is my 15th festival in Łódź. It's hard to tell how much my collection counts today, but it's surely a fewer 1000 figures. It all started with my dad, who started collecting it erstwhile he was about my age. I proceed this work – says the collector, Casper Klimovich.

Sometimes, however, passion appears alone or for economical reasons. This was the case in the case of Patrick Groszkowski, about whom you could read about the collection of self-made paper models in the “Concept”.

I utilized to glue plastic models of military vehicles, but it was getting more expensive. So I stood up for something else, and that's how I happened to be like Pokemon. I've been digging paper for six years. This is surely not easy, but first failures must not be discouraged. It takes patience and hard work for models to come out as expected.

As it turns out, you can visit many interesting places thanks to your passion. Not just in the country, but out of the country.

Interest in my collection is all the time. I receive invitations to festivals in Poland and in the world. I managed to visit the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Latvia, Lithuania and most likely I will be going to France shortly – This is Patrick Groszkowski.

During the event you could meet many acquainted faces. Among the invited guests were, among others, erstwhile footballer, and now author and cartoonist Paweł Leśniak, with whom the interview besides appeared in the Concept. This time, the author of the warmly adopted “Mumia” encourages us to scope out for the continuation of another fascinating adventure.

I'm certain we'll meet Mose. However, we have a large leap in time – over 60 years since the events in the first volume. So the daughter of the main character had plenty of time to prove herself as a female of Pharaoh. Of course, we have a mummy involved. So I can't wait to see this book come out— This is Paweł Leśniak. The Łódź Atlas Arena was one more time a gathering place for all friends of games, comic books and animations. The next 1 will be next year. Unfortunately, at the festival, I did not see Hermione or prof. McGonagall asking for a magical object that would let me to go back in time. So there is nothing left but patiently wait for another edition
