President Karol Nawrocki decided on Thursday that he would not sign the law implementing the EU's SAFE defence debt Scheme. Nawrocki's speech was criticised, among others, by the head of MON Władysław Kosiniak-Kamish and Deputy Prime Minister Radosław Sikorski, who called Nawrocki "a liar and a coward". On the another hand, opposition politicians defined the president's decision as proof of patriotism.

On Thursday's message, Karol Nawrocki stated that "he will never sign a bill that strikes our sovereignty, independence, economical and military security."

He besides warned that "any effort at abroad debt of our country" would face political and legal responsibility.

The President's speech ignited the Polish political scene - both coalition parties and opposition politicians.

Radosław Sikorski was 1 of the first to vote on the presidential veto.

The national defence minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, in turn, considered that Karol Nawrocki did not take advantage of the unique chance to importantly support the modernization of the Polish army. As he pointed out, veto against SAFE is veto "against the safety of Poland".

"We're going to implement Plan B., due to the fact that this is the order of the Polish state. Especially erstwhile there are fresh wars and fresh threats in the world. The candidate of Law and Justice for Prime Minister Przemysław Czarnek criticised the attitude of Prime Minister Donald Tusk and talker of the Parliament of Vladimir Czarzaste, expressing solidarity with the President's decision.

"Poland's business cannot be subject to dangerous financial experiments. It is our work to defend the stableness of the state and the economical safety of Poles. Mr. Tusk, Mr. Czarzasty, get to work! We must adopt the President's Act on SAFE 0% and build the power of our army!" - he commented.
