This evolution was a consequence to the circumstantial conditions of this war – a conflict in which both sides have strong air defence and comparatively weak combat aviation. The second concerns Ukraine in particular. Russia entered into force against Ukraine with about 1150 combat aircraft, of which more than 120 were strategical and operational (so-called long-range) aircraft, and just over a 1000 tactical aircraft. The Russian Air Force besides utilized about 1.5 1000 helicopters of different classes, including 500–600 combat.
