Public media as a political spoil
Former diplomat, east Witold Jurash expert recalled on Facebook the October 20 entry of Ewa Wanat. erstwhile she correctly wrote about public media stating the following:
‘And the same thing always comes back – I already see a stock exchange of names of people named president of TVP and Polish Radio. Nobody cares about contests. There are appointments of politicians who, as usual – from UD, UW, SLD, PSL, etc. by PO, PiS and now 3D will be handing out positions. Kamil Dąbrowa, who I know, like, respect and value, is the PR president. I know that we have akin values, and I hope that Kamila's dementation will come out in a minute – something like: Yes, I am happy to participate in the competition for the president of PR. But I will not accept political nomination‘.
The PiS was ostentatious
Of course, erstwhile it comes to the introduction of their order in public media, the biggest ostentatiousness was the PiS. The appointment of a politician-bulterier to the position of president of TVP, who repeatedly utilized disinformation and manipulation (e.g. the issue of Grandpa Donald Tusk), i.e. Jack Kurski, was crossing another border, a fall in standards. Nevertheless, before the Law and Justice came to power, were public media a platform for an open, pluralist debate? I think it was a rhetorical question, conservatives were represented only by Jan Pospojalski.
The point is to make public media not a stubborn entity, but an thought that will enable different views to clash – from left to right. After all, even in the fresh government coalition, which is meaningful, we will have a number of different beliefs – from left to centre-right, it is worth confronting them with each another in a serious publicist without organization balance. The creation of a Polish BBC counterpart may be wishful thinking, but it is worth learning from mistakes and not following the lead of predecessors.
