The European Union appreciates its partnership with the United States, but intends to build fresh partnerships with different nations around the planet to guarantee economical security," said European economical Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis in connection with the imposition of fresh customs duties by the US, including on goods from EU countries.
"In the future we will request each another even more in an increasingly conflicting and competitive planet ... But we are besides going to make fresh partnerships worldwide to diversify and strengthen them in a way that ensures our economical security," said Dombrovskis at a conference in the US.
The European Commissioner's speech was broadcast by the EC press on its website.
According to Dombrovskis, the EU has already concluded trade agreements with 76 countries, has late concluded negotiations with Mercosur (South American common market) and Mexico, continuing negotiations with India, Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia, the United arabian Emirates and another countries. Dombrovskis added that the EU is committed to securing its future by remaining open to investment and trade.
"Our fresh trade agreements focus on digital partnerships, strategical investments and access to basic natural materials, energy sources of the future", the European Commissioner clarified.
