Narwa is and will stay an Estonian city forever. Information about the alleged separatist movement of the ‘Narevian People's Republic’ is simply a ‘tani’ way to provoke the public, said head of Estonian diplomacy Margus Tsahkna.

Narwa, located on the border with Russia, is the easternmost town in the EU and most of the population is Russian-speaking. According to the head of the Ministry of abroad Affairs of Estonia, the call for the creation of the ‘Nareva People's Republic’ is an effort to make confusion and weaken the cohesion of society.

"Such tactics of Russia we have already seen," Tsahkna wrote on platform X. The Minister covered his entry with photographs of the fortress in Narva, on the walls of which the EU, Estonia and Ukraine flags are hung.

According to the Estonian counterintelligence service, separatist social media activity, especially in Russian-speaking channels, can be regarded as an "information operation", which may besides have criminal consequences," said the Delfi portal.

In Narwa, the 3rd largest city in Estonia, inhabited by just over 50,000 people, almost 90% talk Russian. The border bridge over Narwa connects the city with Russian Ivangorod. In geopolitical analyses, Narwa is frequently listed as 1 of the weakest points of the West in a possible armed confrontation with Russia. In the alleged Narvian scenario, which presupposes Russia's fast military attack on the border town under the pretext of protecting the Russian population, Moscow, then threatening to usage atomic weapons, would so search to block NATO intervention and response.
