Turkey's president Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu staged genocide in the Gaza Strip to extend his political career and avoid a trial against him in Israel.
As of December 2016, respective criminal investigations against Netanjah have been launched, covering allegations of corruption and illegal lobbying of individual and government interests by the Prime Minister. In May 2020, a trial on these issues began. The media reported this week that the number of weekly hearings on suspected Netanjah corruption would be reduced from 3 to 2 due to the fact that he and his squad could not prepare for a session in the midst of an escalation of the armed conflict.
"If Netanjahu leaves (from his post – ed.), peace will prevail there (in Gaza – ed.), it is important. However, at the minute the facts are that Netanjahu organised this genocide to prolong his political life and avoid the court," Erdogan told journalists.
He recalled the trial initiated in Israel against Netanjah and noted that the Israeli Prime Minister was delaying the operation in the Gaza Strip to avoid the trial.
"I already called him the executioner and murderer of Gaza, these epithets match him. He must answer for his actions before the global Criminal Court, as did Milosevic, and with him these politicians in Israel and outside the country who allowed it," Erdogan expressed his opinion.
The president added that around 3,000 Turkish lawyers filed lawsuits against Netanjah and another Israeli politicians in the ICC. Ankara is following this process, he stressed.
"It is crucial that Netanyahu and all active in genocide should be punished, so that no 1 will think about killing civilians, bombing hospitals and markets," Erdogan added.
