BIRMINGHAM- UAE-based carrier Emirates Airline (EK) Airbus A380 aborted takeoff at Birmingham Airport (BHX) on March 23, 2025.

The Gulf airline was operating flight EK40 from Birmingham to Dubai International Airport (DXB) using the world’s largest passenger aircraft. Emirates operates two daily flights between BHX and DXB with a mix of A380 and Boeing 777.

Emirates A380 Aborts Takeoff

According to FlightRadar24 data, Emirates flight EK40 was scheduled to take off from Birmingham Airport at 13:40 local time.

But the aircraft began its take-off roll at 14:00 local time. But during the take-off roll, the cabin crew alerted pilots that there was a medical emergency onboard, as one passenger having a panic attack, flagged Airlive.net.

Following this, the Emirates flight crew aborted takeoff at a low speed of 23 knots. The flight crew addressed the issue with the Birmingham ATC situation and decided to return to terminal 1 immediately.

The passenger witnessing the panic attack was deboarded carefully. After waiting for around 45 minutes at the apron, the aircraft once again pushed back and it began its taxi at 14:58 local time.

The flight took off from Birmingham at 15:08 local time and landed safely in Dubai at 21:30 UTC, 52 minutes later than its actual time of arrival.

Well, the exact situation of the passenger is not known, we will update the post once we have some confirmed information.

The flight was operated by a 7.4-year-old Airbus A380-842 aircraft, registered as A6-EVA. The four powerful Rolls-Royce Trent 900 engines power the superjumbo.

Emirates Airlines flight EK262 experienced an engine malfunction during takeoff from São Paulo’s Guarulhos International Airport on June 15, 2024. The Dubai-bound A380 aircraft aborted its departure after passengers and crew reported loud noises and flames from one of its engines.

The incident occurred as the 7.9-year-old Airbus A380-861, registered as A6-EUL, began its takeoff roll on runway 10L. Passengers seated on the aircraft’s left side and flight attendants observed flames coming from the left engine following a loud bang.

The flight crew immediately rejected the takeoff at a low speed of 38 knots and returned to the terminal. According to FlightRadar24 and RadarBox data, the aircraft began its takeoff run at 4:16 AM UTC but reported engine issues and returned to the apron by 4:38 AM UTC.

Emirates staff directed passengers to disembark safely and informed them that the flight had been canceled.

The A380 involved in the incident is equipped with four GP7270 engines manufactured by Engine Alliance, a joint venture between General Electric and Pratt & Whitney.
