The Ministry of National Education announced that inactive this school year a decision could be made to introduce compulsory wellness education. Although it is simply a step towards expanding prevention, many parents ask serious questions about the nature of content, the limits of education and respect for conscience.
For families who want to rise children In the spirit of its own faith-based values, this is not just a substance of another point in the school plan. This is simply a fundamental substance – concerning the identity of the young man, his spiritual growth and the inalienable right of parents to raise, which is guaranteed by the Constitution.
30 percent of students go to class. This is no accident – parents knowingly defend the right to raise
Some 920,000 students attend wellness education today, which is little than 30% qualified. The MEN points to many causes of low attendance, but is silent about the most important: parents have massively discharged their children due to the fact that they are not certain that the fresh content will comply with their values.
Aversion to class is not due to aversion to concern for Health. The problem arises erstwhile wellness becomes an excuse to convey content: incompatible with Christian anthropology, building a imagination of a man separated from religion and morality, undermining the function of household as the first and most crucial educational environment.
Parents are the first and most crucial educators of their children. That's it. right – not statistic – should be the starting point for any educational reform.
What's truly expected to be on the show? Parents want transparency, not a declaration
The words of the Deputy Minister, who blames the low attendance for the "negative run of certain environments", many parents view as simplification. They argue that their decisions are not based on manipulation or politics, but on genuine care for the upbringing of their children, especially after the conversion of the erstwhile WEDZ – an object firmly rooted in the concept of household – to wellness education in a not yet known shape.
Parents emphasize that the programme introduced in a hurry, with unclear content and without real consultation, raises natural questions:
What image of a man will be presented in this class? Will consideration be given to values that for many families – including Catholics – are the foundation of education? Will the school respect parents’ right to a decision that is in harmony with their conscience?
Deputy Minister: wellness education is needed. Parents: Needed, but transparent
Deputy Minister Piechna-Wieckiewicz speaks about the necessity of the compulsory nature of the subject in order to guarantee “preventional actions reaching each child”.
These are crucial words due to the fact that Prevention – both physical and intellectual – is the space that parents support.
At the same time, they remind us that prevention cannot mean the school's default right to enter areas that traditionally belong to the family. Especially where worldview, morally sensitive, related to puberty and relationships are concerned.
Consultation announced – but will it be real?
The Deputy Minister announced that parents, teachers and students would be given opinions, which many take as a step in the right direction. However, after the statements about a "negative campaign", the question arises whether the voices of those critically disposed to form the subject will be taken seriously or simply as an obstacle to the legislative process.
Parents anticipate dialog to be real alternatively than formal – and that household opinions will be treated with the same weight as MEN experts.
Therefore, the decision to introduce mandatory wellness education will not only be a substance of legislative calendar. It will be a test whether you see in your partners' parents or just the recipients of subsequent regulations.
