easyJet First Officer Salary

easyJet’s first officers usually spend two years in the capacity before being promoted to the designation of senior first officers. They assist the captain in safely flying the aircraft from the origin to its destination, along with being responsible for air traffic communication, carrying out safety checks on the aircraft, and helping the commander to smoothly execute the flight.

easyJet first officers are paid a salary amounting to £67,628 per year (approx. US$87,400) while senior first officers can earn up to £83,020 yearly (approx. US$107,300) depending on their experience levels. In addition to their basic pay, easyJet’s first officers receive an additional allowance depending on the distance they fly in the following ranges.

• 0 to 400 nautical miles – £20.76 (US$27)
• 401 to 1,000 nautical miles – £31.14 (US$40.25)
• 1,001 to 1,500 nautical miles – £38.93 (US$50.32)
• 1,501 nautical miles and higher – £64.88 (US$83.86)

easyJet Captain Salary

easyJet captains are the most senior members of the cockpit crew, tasked with managing the flight crew and safely completing a flight. They make crucial decisions such as emergency responses and navigation, while the more experienced commanders are also tasked with mentoring second officers and first officers as they gain flying hours.

Captains receive an annual salary ranging from £136,890 to £157,424 (approx. US$177,000 to US$203,400). Depending on service for the airline, including as first officers, they receive a 5% annual bonus for 2 to 4 years, 10% for 4 to 10 years, and 15% if they have been associated with the carrier for over 10 years. Their allowances for flights are as below.

• 0 to 400 nautical miles – £34.54 (US$44.64)
• 401 to 1,000 nautical miles – £51.96 (US$67.16)
• 1,001 to 1,500 nautical miles – £64.95 (US$83.95)
• 1,501 nautical miles and higher – £108.25 (US$139.91)

• LEAVE ALLOWANCE – easyJet pilots are entitled to 25 days of annual paid leave, in addition to being compensated accordingly for bank holidays.
• STAFF TRAVEL – Staff travel benefits can be availed by all pilots, as well as their nominated family and friends. Up to eight free tickets on a standby basis can be obtained per year, whereas all other easyJet flights are available at a flat rate of £5 plus taxes. How to become a pilot at easyJet?

While second officers at easyJet are graduates directly out of their cadet program, first officers must fulfill the following requirements to be considered for a role.

• ATPL
• Current class 1 medical
• Level 4 ICAO English
• Valid passport
• Unrestricted right to live and work in the UK, EU, or Switzerland and the ability to travel across easyJet’s network without restriction.
• Type Rated Co-Pilots: at least 500 hours on A320
• Non-Type Rated Co-Pilots: at least 500 flying hours on aircraft over 10T MTOW

Meanwhile, captains must meet the following criteria to be considered.

• ATPL
• Current class 1 medical
• Level 4 ICAO English
• Valid passport
• Unrestricted right to live and work in the UK, EU, or Switzerland and the ability to travel across easyJet’s network without restriction.
• Type Rated Captains: at least 4,000 flying hours, with 1,000 PIC hours on A320
• Non-Type Rated Captains: at least 4,000 flying hours with 1,000 PIC hours on jet aircraft over 30T MTOW

Hiring Process

easyJet follows a five-step process as below for hiring pilots.

1. ONLINE APPLICATION – easyJet invites online applications depending on vacancies at the airline. Through the airline’s careers page, applicants can submit their CVs, and additional documents and complete a basic questionnaire.
2. ONLINE TESTS – Candidates are required to complete a series of online tests. Co-pilots are quizzed on verbal and numerical reasoning, while captains are also required to complete a psychometric test in line with EASA guidelines.
3. APPLICATION REVIEW – Once the online application process has been completed along with the online tests, the hiring team reviews each candidature and the individuals who make further progress are invited to an assessment center.
4. NON-TECHNICAL ASSESSMENTS – Once shortlisted, candidates are invited to easyJet’s London Gatwick or Milan centres where group exercises and a competency-based interview is held. It is also a session to get a better idea of the airline and its work culture.
5. TECHNICAL ASSESSMENTS – Co-pilots and captains (both direct-entry) are required to take a simulator test for the hiring team to assess their technical knowledge and suitability of the Airbus A320 family aircraft.

A candidate who completes the appended five-step process is offered employment, which is conditional to the successful completion of background checks and medical tests.
