SAFE program for Poland. large money on the table

Under the EU programme, the Polish government will be able to benefit from around EUR 43.7 billion in the form of interest-bearing loans, and spend them on defence investments. According to the government's declaration, over 80% of the money is to be spent in the Polish arms industry.

On Friday, the Sejm passed a bill implementing the programme, establishing it on Polish legal grounds. It will let the establishment of a peculiar fund managed by BGK through which money from the programme can be spent.

The aim of SAFE is to strengthen the defence of EU countries more quickly, by purchasing equipment primarily in European industry. The instrument is designed to finance comparatively short-term projects up to 2030.

The programme provides for a full of EUR 150 billion of support in the form of low-interest loans for military equipment purchases. The task is intended to support EU countries in strengthening their defence capacity and reducing their dependence on arms from the US.
