Two injured workers in a gas detonation at a gas station in Katowice

Two people were injured on Monday as a consequence of a gas detonation at a gas station in Katowice. The injured are 2 workers performing maintenance work at a gas tank with a capacity of 5 cubic meters – the fire department reported.

Young Captain Jakub Tondos of the PSP Municipal Command in Katowice said that the study of the detonation at the station at Kolista Street was received in the service respective minutes in the afternoon.

Both victims were transported to the hospital, 1 of them being taken by an Air Rescue helicopter.

An accident occurred at an underground gas tank with a capacity of 5 cubic metres (5 1000 litres). The tank itself was not destroyed – the gas from it exploded. “For now, we do not know what the origin of the incidental was,” said the fireman.

In the vicinity of the gas tanks there was a service car that, after the explosion, went up in flames, the fire was rapidly extinguished and did not spread.

– In terms of fire, the situation is contained, the gas supply has been cut off. There are six troops, 19 firefighters on site," added Captain Tondos.
