Only yesterday we celebrated the National Day of Memory of Victims of Genocide made by Ukrainians from the CNS/UPA on citizens of the Second Republic. On Saturday, 80 years passed since another crime in the Polish Nation – the alleged Augustowska Oława, carried out by the Soviets on activists of the Polish underground independency in Suwałczyz, just after the end of planet War II. president Andrzej Duda recalled in very emotional words about this large tragedy on Saturday.
"We inactive don't know where their bodies are. 600 people disappeared without a trace. Kidnapped. Expedited. Murdered by russian counter-intelligence “Death”. For 80 years, families have been inactive waiting to find out where to light the torch," wrote the president on the 80th anniversary of the Augustowska Siege.
"In July 1945, as Europe rose from wartime destruction, a brutal operation aimed at soldiers of the Polish underground of independency began in north-eastern Poland. The Red Army, with the participation of the UB and the “people” Polish Army, surrounded the Augustov Forest", recalled the head of the state.
"It was a planned extermination of those who did not lay down their weapons due to the fact that they did not consider slavery to be liberation. Their only responsibility was the fidelity of free Poland – independent of Moscow too" - added Andrzej Duda in the entry on social media.
The president stressed that for many years the event could not even be mentioned, let alone commemorated in any solemn way.
‘But memory did not die. She survived in her homes, hearts, prayers and stories. And present – in free Poland – we talk loudly about the slain guerrillas from Augustowska Forest and pay tribute to all the victims of this crime," wrote Duda.
“Hi and glory to the Heroes! The Eternal Memory of the Deceased and the Murdered!” he wrote.
