The excise work on ethyl alcohol, beer, wine, fermented beverages and intermediate products is expected to increase by 15 percent from 1 January 2026. "In accordance with Eurostat data, the consumption prices of alcoholic beverages in Poland are importantly lower than in most EU countries. Cheaper alcohol can only be bought in Bulgaria, Romania and Hungary" explains the Ministry of Finance in its communication. Let us add that since 2027 the excise work on the same products would increase by another 10%. Sweet drinks will besides make the Ministry announce an increase in the sugar levy. ‘ The simplification in the economical availability of sweetened beverages is linked to the increasing problem of obesity and the spending of more resources on wellness care," explains the Ministry. Meanwhile, Karol Nawrocki announces that he will not sign a taxation increase on alcohol and sugar charges.
