Record number of punishment points
The MP of Law and Justice, Luke Meyza, gathered a full of 99 punishment points as a consequence of a series of traffic offences, revealed, among others, in requests to waive his immunity. The full amount of tickets reaches PLN 11,400.
Most of the violations were recorded by photoradiars, but 1 of the most serious ones was driving in Lower Silesia close Polkowice, where the politician exceeded velocity by 80 km/h, reaching 200 km/h, resulting in 15 punishment points and a mandate of PLN 2,500. another offences included multiple velocity overruns, including over 60 km/h (twice), 44 km/h and respective times more than 30 km/h, and in 1 case the photoradar recorded it twice the same day.
The figures clearly show that 84 punishment points and 8,900 PLN of mandates relate to violations registered by photoradiators, while 15 points and 2,500 PLN per 1 most serious offense. In total, this exceeds the almost maximum allowable punishment point limit.
The case became public again after RMF FM revealed that the police were going to punish PiS MP Luke Mezza not for 1 offense, but for 10 serious violations of traffic regulations.
Surrender of immunity
On 20 March, 2 letters from Luke Meyza were sent to the Sejm, in which the MP waived immunity in matters concerning traffic offences. This means that he will no longer block proceedings at this stage, and the Rules Committee is to check the correctness of the papers submitted during the meetings scheduled for 25 and 26 March.
Mejza admitted in an interview with RMF FM that he had to bear the consequences of wrongdoing, admitting that he "behaving badly" and would not defend himself with immunity. He besides explained that he had not previously seen parts of the correspondence that came to the incorrect address, so he himself surrendered immunity. The associate no longer contests the settlement itself, and its work will be assessed in relation to all the offences revealed, not just the celebrated crossing of the S3 route.
For the record, in Poland a driver with a driving licence for more than a year can collect a maximum of 24 punishment points and a beginner - 20 points. In this context, the 99 points collected by Luke Mezza exceed the limit more than 4 times, which shows the scale of the violations.
