Dramatic increase in abortion in Polish hospitals with “healthy conditions”

According to the government's study on the implementation of the household Planning and Human Fetal Protection Act, 885 abortions were carried out in Polish hospitals in 2024, almost all for wellness reasons. This is an almost double increase compared to the erstwhile year and the highest consequence since the changes in law after the Constitutional Court's judgement in 2020.

At the end of December 2025, the study of the Council of Ministers on the implementation of the Act of 7 January 1993 (Journal of Laws of 2022 item 1575) was received by the Sejm. The paper includes, inter alia, information on the number of abortions carried out in 2024 and on the reasons for them.

Since the 2020 judgement of the Constitutional Tribunal abortion in Poland, only 2 cases are allowed:

  • when pregnancy poses a hazard to the life or wellness of the mother,
  • where there is simply a reasonable suspicion that the pregnancy was caused by a prohibited act.

As data from government reports show, the number of abortions due to a prohibited act has been at the level of respective cases per year for years. However, the number of abortions performed on the basis of the alleged wellness condition, which in 2024 reached a value akin to the number of abortions carried out earlier due to the eugenic condition, is expanding significantly. The proposal is simple, the wellness hazard condition is increasingly replacing the repealed eugenic condition, and the Ministry of wellness plays a key function in this.

Massive increase in the number of killed children unborn

According to the RM report, in 2024 882 abortion cases occurred in Polish hospitals “when pregnancy was a threat to the life or wellness of a pregnant woman”. By comparison, there were 423 in 2023 and 159 in 2022.

These data show that since the change of government, there has been a marked increase in abortions motivated by "health threats". In practice, specified treatments frequently include women’s declared intellectual disorders, on the basis of which psychiatrist doctors issue abortion certificates. Government reports do not give circumstantial reasons, limiting themselves to the general category "life or wellness hazard".

Hospital in Oleśnica – example of mass practice

An example is the infirmary in Oleśnica, where 159 psychiatric abortions were performed in 2024. Of this 144 procedures active children with diagnosis of diseases or defects. The treatment was based solely on referrals to specialist clinics and medical certificate from psychiatrists diagnosed with F.43.2 – adaptive disorders. These data show that wellness conditions, and in peculiar intellectual problems of pregnant women, have become the dominant reason for abortion in any institutions.

Government policy implications

The abrupt increase in abortions motivated by the danger of women's intellectual wellness stems, among others, from the pro-abortion policy of the Ministry of Health. In 2024, "Guidelines on existing government on access to abortion" were issued which suggested that a adequate basis for abortion was a certificate from a psychiatrist, regardless of the kind of illness. The guidelines have no legal force, but the threat of financial sanctions prompts hospitals and doctors to apply them.

The change of the Minister of wellness did not change the situation, the fresh Minister did not repeal the guidelines, and in consequence to the appeal of the lawyers, the Ordo Iuris Ministry of wellness reproduced earlier incorrect indications, limiting itself to repeating the guidelines.

The scale of abortions carried out in 2024 on the basis of alleged wellness reasons exposes the deep pathology of the current wellness system. In a legal state, the life of an unborn kid may be taken on the basis of a medical certificate, frequently involving temporary or possibly curable intellectual discomfort. This is simply a situation that has nothing to do with either reliable medicine or genuine concern for a woman.

Instead of real treatment, long-term therapy and support, the strategy proposes the fastest and most extremist "exit" – the elimination of the child. Women are not healed in this way, but are exacerbated by drama, while at the same time killing those who are completely defenseless. Abortion becomes a substitute for wellness care and a psychiatric certificate is simply a tool for circumventing law and conscience.

Such an approach is simply a denial of genuine concern for man. actual aid It consists of the treatment, companionship and protection of life, not the death of a falsely understood "mental comfort". A country that allows the killing of unborn children alternatively of investing in real support for women in a crisis exposes itself certificate Systemic disease.

If the aim is to actually defend the wellness of women and the lives of children, a profound change of thought is needed: more therapy, more help, more responsibility, and no more death certificates.
