JSEC Commander: We request to extend to the east flank a network of pipelines for the military

NATO should extend the Cold War fuel pipeline network by hundreds of kilometres to the east to supply supplies to its troops in the event of a conflict with Russia," said General Kai Rohrschneider, commander of the NATO Joint Support Command (JSEC) today.

“From an operational point of view, extending the pipeline strategy further east would make large sense,” the general said.

As Reuter explains, the NATO pipeline network, which is simply a full dimension of 10,000 km and located 80 cm underground, was built during the Cold War mainly to supply fuel to Western Air Force in the event of a conflict with the russian Union. The pipeline network presently includes 12 countries, but ends in western Germany, where it operates military bases specified as Ramstein, but besides major civilian nodes like Frankfurt Airport.

"I think it is essential to bring the pipeline network to Poland, and I think that a solution should be found for the 3 Baltic countries," said Rohrschneider, adding that further expansion is needed towards Finland in the north and Romania in the southeast.
