"For now, we don't anticipate any money for TVP," said Prime Minister Donald Tusk during the press conference. “We are prepared to fund public media after recovery.”

It is worth noting that backing of Polish tv comes not only from subscription fees, but besides from state budget funds. In total, in 2017-2022, TVP received PLN 7.2 billion, and only in 2023 – PLN 2.3 billion.

No more wasting money.

During the press conference, Donald Tusk was asked whether the budget for the next year provided funds for Polish Television.

"For now we do not anticipate any money for the public media," the Prime Minister replied and added, "There is no reason for public tv to cost billions of PLN of the Polish taxpayer."

According to Donald Tusk, besides much public money has been wasted in the public media in fresh years. He called this situation 1 of the “blackest books” of the government's grant history. According to the Prime Minister, many productions were overpaid, as well as TVP staff salaries. "I don't think I gotta explain to anyone here how far all possible boundaries have been exceeded," he added.

Can tv Poland number on any possible funding? Ko MP Bogdan Zdrojewski, president of the Parliamentary Committee on Culture and Means of Transmission, calculated the minimum budget of TVP in early December. The case is not entirely settled. "According to experts, these are amounts in forks between PLN 0.9 and PLN 1.7 billion plus funds for public radio broadcasting," he said.

RTV subscription

We've already written on a page about infamous RTV subscription. Bogdan Zdrojewski already announced his liquidation. According to the Member, the fee is unfair due to the fact that only a tiny part of the population regulates it. He added that the taxation on the usage of televisions and radio receivers is simply a "unfair form of racketeering".

For many years there has been a RTV licence strategy in Poland, which is charged by the Polish Post Office. The gross from these fees is transferred to the KRRiT and allocated to the implementation of the public service mission by TVP and PR, but their value is decreasing from year to year. At the end of 2022, only 828,000 people paid a radio-television subscription. The KRRiT study shows that there were 589 1000 households and 239 1000 organization subscribers in this group.

However, it turns out that the MP is planning to run something else for RTV. This is an audiovisual charge. It would be collected monthly by taxation offices along with an advance on income tax. Preliminary calculations indicate that the premium would be PLN 8-9.
