Trump put forward the first major proposal to push Vladimir Putin, which could encourage him to change his position on Ukraine. The Russian budget is heavy dependent on oil exports. Lowering the price of this natural material on global markets would reduce Russian budgetary influences, which would give the Kremlin a chance to reduce its war effort.
“The war will end immediately”
Trump spoke about global oil prices, tying them straight to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
The US president said he would ask Saudi Arabia and OPEC to lower oil prices. He stated that he was amazed that oil producers had not taken this step before the U.S. presidential election.
— I intend to address Saudi Arabia and OPEC to lower oil prices. If that happens, the war in Ukraine will end immediately — said Donald Trump.
— At the moment, the price is advanced adequate to keep the war going. We gotta lower the price of oil. We can end the war," he added.
Trump besides praised reports that Saudi Arabia would invest 600 billion dollars in the United States (about PLN 2.4 trillion). He said he would ask the Kingdom to circular this amount to 1 trillion dollars (about PLN 4 trillion).
