Donald Trump has been fond of imposing various types of duties since the beginning of his second term. They were affected by Canada and Mexico (which introduced retaliatory duties), and on Monday it announced 25-proc. ‘secondary duties’ for countries purchasing oil from Venezuela.
What did Donald Trump say?
— We'll charge 25% of the duties. But if you are building your car in the United States, there are no duties," said Trump in the Oval Office. The president stressed that his goal was to increase interior production and attract producers to the US.
What are the expectations?
Trump expects the US budget to gain an additional $100 billion thanks to the fresh customs. This is an ambitious presumption to be pursued by imposing fresh tariffs in addition to the existing ones.
