The CBP 1 app has enabled immigrants since January 2023 to arrange legal asylum visits, which has discouraged many people from crossing the border illegally. The Democratic administration wanted to reduce the influx of foreigners into the Mexican-American border.
Trump's squad rapidly liquidated this policy and called on migrants who utilized it to leave the United States immediately.
"Cancellation of these conditional exemptions is simply a promise kept to voters (implemented) to safe our borders and defend national security," argued the Department of National safety (DHS).
In the notices sent this week, there were warnings that immigrants affected by this decision would lose their work licence and could be threatened with criminal proceedings, fines or even deportation from the US. Exceptions are individuals (including Ukrainian citizens) who "have otherwise gained the legal basis to stay in the United States".
The DHS did not specify to what degree these provisions would affect the situation of migrants presently applying for asylum or temporary protective status.
