Andrea Zanoni, a associate of the regional convention of Venice, said he saw video of Trump Jr hunting in the EU protection zone.

"Video shows Trump Jr. with a curly kasser (Tadorna ferruginea) in the foreground, a duck that is very uncommon throughout Europe and protected by the EU Birds Directive and Italian law... Killing or keeping this animal is punishable by law," Zanoni wrote in a Facebook post.

"I asked to uncover the facts. Veneto and Italy are not owned by the United States“— he added.

Unedited footage published by Field Ethos, an outdoor brand co-founded by Trump Jr, shows it shooting ducks in the Venetian Laguna. In 1 of Trump Jr clips, he points out the bird, saying, "It's actually rather an different duck for this area," adding, "I'm not even certain what it's like in English, but it's an amazing catch."

Italian media reports Trump Jr was in Venice in December. Hunting in Italy is legal but strictly regulated. Only Italians with regional hunting permits can hunt. "Trump Jr in Italy could not hunt," Zanoni stressed.

At his request, Luan Zanell, MP of the Greens, referred the case to the Ministry of the Environment. Minister Gilberto Pichetto Fratin said he "waits for a study to find out more and get all the information," as reported by ANSA.

POLITICO contacted Trump Jr. to get a comment.
