Monroe Doctrine: How the US Dominated the Western Hemisphere

With the birth of American statehood a fundamental dogma about the primacy of the United States over the western hemisphery of our planet was born. This concept was expressed by president James Monroe, who presented it to legislature on 2 December 1823. His doctrine—although the actual author was Secretary of State John Quincy Adams—provided that no of the American continents could be either the object of colonization now or in the future.
