The U.S. Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led by billionaire Elon Musk, focuses on controversial topics specified as abroad aid, ignoring the real weaknesses of US national programs, which are subject to large-scale fraud all year — reported NBC citing Socure's study and expert comments.
According to Jordan Burris, a erstwhile White home authoritative and vice president of Socure, Musk focuses on controversial subjects specified as abroad aid and makes unwarranted accusations against government workers while the main threats stay unresolved.
"DOGE claims that this (fight against fraud – ed.) is simply a precedence for them. I look forward to seeing what they will actually do to effort to solve any of these issues," Burris said.
According to the Socure report, global criminal networks bargain up to $1 trillion a year, utilizing false or stolen data to receive payments from government programs. The study estimates that up to 12 percent of all applications for subsidies and services in the US are falsified.
According to NBC, fraud groups allegedly operate from China, Russia, Egypt, Poland and another countries. They usage spoofing IP addresses, registration of fictional companies, and false identities created on the basis of stolen data, as well as fresh artificial intelligence tools for mass production of false applications.
Burris noted that unlike private companies, national agencies frequently do not usage modern tools to analyse digital identity and risk.
“In many agencies today, if individual calls the call center and says they have a blocked account, many of them will let you to regain access, saying 'OK, we'll let you change your name and password'... They'll most likely ask you something like, 'What's your name? Social safety number? Why don't you answer the question about the car you erstwhile owned?" Burris said.
All this information is easy to get by frauds," he said.
The study stresses that the fight against fraud requires not only method solutions but besides political will. Despite DOGE's claims about progress, experts see no signs of systemic action.
