Iga Christmas began the Australian Open with victory, defeating Chinese tennis player Yue Yuan 7:6 (7–5), 6:3. The WTA ranking runner-up advanced to the second round.
However, the match proved much harder than the WTA ranking would indicate (Yue Yuan is at 130th position). In the first set, Iga Christmas settled the duel only in tie-break. In the second installment of Christmas rapidly took the lead 3:0, she retained control and closed the meeting. Polka inactive remains in the game for the only large title she lacks in her achievements.
Other representatives of Poland can besides boast of successful performances. Magdalena Frzech and Magda Linette most likely advanced to the second round, as did debuting in the Grand Slam Linda Klimovicova. Kamil Majchrzak besides won.
