A complaint against the Italian Prime Minister went to the global Criminal Court

Giorgia Meloni reported that she herself, as well as the ministers Guido Crosetto and Antonio Tajani, and the head of the Leonardo group, Roberto Cingolani, were charged with complicity in genocide in connection with the Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip. The complaint has already gone to the global Criminal Court. The Prime Minister did not uncover who filed it, but, according to the AFP agency, the Palestinian human rights organisation is to be behind it.

– I do not think there is another specified case in the planet and in history," said Giorgia Meloni. The Prime Minister admitted that there was surprised allegations of complicity in genocide, stressing that Italy did not let any fresh arms supplies to Israel after 7 October.

As the agency Reuters points out, the right-wing government of Giorgia Meloni, who has so far been considered a decisive ally of Israel, has late distanced himself from being referred to as disproportionate – offensives in Gaza. Nevertheless, Italy did not break trade or diplomatic relations with Israel and did not recognise the Palestinian state.

Italy blocks humanitarian aid

According to the agency, there has been a wave of demonstrations in Italy over the past week involving hundreds of thousands of people opposed to the mass killing of civilians in the Gaza Strip. The Italian trade unions have accused the government of not acting to put force on Israel to end the war and to guarantee the free access of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.

At the end of September, the Italian Prime Minister urged the global flotilla bringing humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip to immediately halt the mission. Meloni stressed that further efforts to face Israel could jeopardise fragile balancewhich, in her opinion, is the basis for a possible peace. She added that an effort to break the Israeli naval blockade could service as an excuse to escalate the conflict, which is why the flotilla should halt action.

Health officials in the Gaza Strip study that more than 67,000 people have died since the beginning of the conflict as a consequence of Israeli actions. Israel firmly rejects the accusations of genocide.
