The president signed an amendment to the Prison Service Act, which introduces a unified housing strategy for officers. The fresh rules replace the existing forms of support with 1 universal monthly service for each officer.
The amount of the benefit will be determined as the product of the base rate, planned at PLN 600, and a multiplier based on the location of the service. In Warsaw, officers will receive the highest support – PLN 1,800 per period (multiplier 3). In provincial cities, the benefit will be PLN 1500 (multiplier 2.5), in cities with territory rights of PLN 1200 (multiplier 2), and in another towns 900 PLN (multiplier 1.5).
The strategy will exclude from the right to benefit officers on unpaid leave (except parental leave), suspended in service or temporarily arrested. The amendment assumes the gradual elimination of earlier forms of housing aid, including financial support for the acquisition of housing.
Agreement with unions
The fresh regulations are the consequence of an agreement concluded in March this year between the Ministry of Justice, Prison Service and trade unions. The strategy operating in the Ministry of Interior and Administration was a model for the regulations.
The Ministry of Justice stressed that the change would improve the procedures. “As a result, the Prison Service will have 1 unified housing service, which will improve the process of examining officials’ applications and the procedure for granting and paying benefits”, he explained.
