According to RMF FM, the investigation of Mielnikawa's disappearance may be taken over by the National Prosecutor's Office. The reason is the nature of the case – investigators believe that the explanation should be addressed by prosecutors conducting the most serious proceedings, including those related to espionage.
The destiny of the missing remains unknown. As reported, investigators take into account respective scenarios – from fraud and misappropriation of funds from opposition collections, action for abroad intelligence, but besides kidnapping by abroad services. Importantly, the formal investigation into the disappearance has not yet been initiated.
Police have forwarded the collected material to the territory Attorney's Office. Its task will be to measure legal and criminal evidence and to decide in which direction and by whom further proceedings should be conducted. But that is not all.
"RMF FM reporter found out unofficially that money was missing from the foundation's account with her," we read. Furthermore, confidential papers to which it had access were to be downloaded from the Coordination Council servers.
Missing Head of the Coordination Council of Belarus
Let us remind that the information about the disappearance was transmitted by the Belarusian Centre for the Defence of Human Rights "Visna" via the Telegram communicator. Mielnikawa disappeared on March 25.
The Polish services learned about the case from the Belarusian oppositionist, Deputy Head of the United Interim Cabinet of Paweł Latuszko. According to the information available, Anżalika Mielnikawa and her children were not present in Poland.
"At the request of law enforcement authorities, this information was not previously published," informed the Coordination Council, a body created by the leader of the Belarusian opposition, Swiatlana Cichanouska, during the 2020 protests. As added by the Center "Wiasna", together with Mielnikawa, her daughters were missing at the age of 6 and 12.
Anżalika Mielnikawa left Belarus after being detained twice during the protests in 2020. He cooperates with Latushka in the National Anti-crisis Board he led.
On 29 March, press spokesperson Jacek Dobrzyński referred to the case. "Polish services have received information that representatives of the coordination council of Belarus have not been in contact with the president of the Council of Anżelika Mielnikawa for respective days," he wrote.
He added that according to the findings of the Polish and partner services of Mielnikawa "for many weeks" she has been outside Poland. He besides assured that Polish authorities "will support the activities of the services of another states and the Coordination Council of Belarus", in order to find the missing woman.
