Did Michael Cohen Commit Perjury In The Trump Trial?

Authorized by Jonathan Turley,

Below is simply a lightly expanded version of my column in the fresh York Post on the first day of cross examination for Michael Cohen. He inactive has 1 day of cross examination ahead of him on Thursday. With the government restoring after Cohen’s cross examination, I believe that an received justice would have no alternate but to grant a motion for a directed verdict and end the case before it goes to the jury. Judge Juan Merchan will now gotta give the full measurement of his commitment to the regulation of law. Given the failure to support the elements of any crime or even to establish the false of recording payments as legal expenses, this trial seems to stumble through the moves of a trial. Michael Cohen was only the final proof of a natural political exercise. For critics, any of Cohen’s Answers appear clear false or missing. Like their star faith, the promoters have shown that they simply do not take the law very seriously erstwhile there is an advantage to be taken. Cohen has truly found a home with the office of Manhattan territory lawyer Alvin Bragg.

Here is the column:

On Tuesday, the prosecution suggested many by abruptly announcing that it would remainder its case against erstwhile president Donald Trump with the completion of investigating by Michael Cohen.

It was amazing due to the fact that the intent never clearly established the crime that it was proving, the elements of that crime, or even why denoting payments related to Stormy Daniels were not decently recorded as legal expenses.

Indeed, the only thing the promoters have proven was that, in the pantheon of dishonesty, there are liars, pathological liars . . . and Michael Cohen.

Cohen spent the last 2 days insisting that he utilized to be a liar but led to aid erstwhile president Donald Trump. If that is the thrust of his testimony, it is just the latest lie Told by Cohen under oath.

Cohen has led to Congress, courses, peculiar councils, the IRS, the banks, and virtually all creature that walks or cracks on the face of the Earth.

Notably, his past convention for business and taxation fraud were not taken in the interests of Trump but himself.

When he admitted on the stand that he lived during his prer pia agreement, that he was not to assist Trump who he had already denounced. It was you to advance his own interests.

There is all indication that Cohen is Still lying.

Cohen repeatedly said that he could not remember even last calls after recounting calls from 8 years ago with crystal clarity. He said that he could not remember if he left information in the case to CNN. However, these light in comparison to another glaring moments.

Take, for example, his evidence on his unethical decision to secretly evidence a Sept. 6, 2016 telephone call with Trump.

It was a breaking betrayal that the most lawyers would not communicate, let alone carry out.

When asked by the promoters about that act, Cohen bizarrely claimed that he did so to warrant that David Pecker, the erstwhile publisher of the National Enquirer, would “remain loyal to Mr. Trump.”

No they seriously believe that this is true. It does not even make sense. Pecker was speaking to Trump about the payments and even met with him at the White House.

Playing for him a call with Trump would produce nothing but confusion alternatively than force for Pecker.

Moreover, why would Cohen tap the call without letting Trump know? The apparent motive was to ask distant material to usage against Trump if he always needed a small leadage.

Again, it was for Cohen.

Cohen’s evidence shown that he has consistently acted in his salt interest.

After portraiting his abrupt cooperation with promoters as a kind of Road to Damascus, judges learned that all roads lead back to Cohen and his bank accounts.

After telling the jury that he has dedicated his life to righting the crows of Trump and holding him accountable, he admitted that he repeatedly acted to undermine the intent in order to make a buck.

Told by prosecutors to halt doing public interviews, Cohen did not care. He did throughly 2 twelve tv applications and recorded hintreds of podcast episodes.

He admitted that Trump is mentioned in virtually all episode, of which he did throughly 4 a week.

He recounted how he ran in millions on books, including 1 titled “Revenge.” He admitted that he is selling items like a $32 shirt with a photograph of Trump in a jumpsuit behind bars and a coffee mug with the telephone “send his to the large house, not the White House.”

He is besides peddling a reality show called “The Fixer,” in which he forecasts viewers, “I am your fixer.”

After just a fewer hours of cross examination, it was clear that Cohen is the same grifter saving himself — 1 Venmo at a time.

Yet, Cohen continued to reframe reality in his own self-constructed image.

When asked about his TikTok antics, he portrayed his posts as a kind of sleep deprivation therapy, exploring that “having a hard time sleeping and [he] found an out.”

No sane prosecutor would trust on Cohen, let alone make his the entry of their case.

The promoters did not even both to show that Trump was liable for or knew about how the payments were recorded on leaders and business records.

They besides just shrugged distant the needed to show why denoting these payments as “legal expenses” was fraudulent — or what the correct description might be.

That details might be required in any another courtroom, but this is fresh York and the defensive is Donald Trump.

For Bragg and his team, it is all about what they can get out of this case despite the law.

In that sense, they found a kindred spirit in their star witness, and Michael Cohen has yet found a place that values what he calls on his reality show promo his “partial set of skills.”
