China reported on Sunday, January 5, 2024 that they initiated 15 actions to strengthen the improvement of the western state of the country by building logistics infrastructure specified as ports and air hubs. The General Customs Administration of the PRC informed that these activities would increase the integration of rail, air, river and sea connections in the west of China.
Activities are to include strengthening global hubs in Chengdu, Chongqing, Kunming, Xi’an and Urumqi cities, while developing comprehensive customs zones and integrating them into ports and another transport links.
Many ports will besides be built and expanded.
China has long sought to strengthen the economical position of its western regions, which are clearly lagging behind coastal provinces. The western regions of China account for about 2 thirds of the country's surface and cover regions specified as Sichuan, Chongqing, Yunnan, Xinjiang and Tibet.
Last year, the China Political Bureau called for "new urbanisation“ Western China to revive agrarian areas, grow efforts to fight poorness and strengthen energy resources. Efforts were besides made to increase links with Europe and South Asia through trade corridors, including rail freight routes.
