Delhi T2 Shutdown for Refurbishment

Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) has announced plans to refurbish Terminal 2 (T2) of Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL).

The terminal was built four decades ago by the Airports Authority of India (AAI). The Delhi airport will shut down Terminal 2 (T2) between 2025 and 26 and complete the project in Q2.

During the renovation, T2 will close temporarily for 4–6 months, shifting operations to the expanded Terminal 1. This upgrade aims to meet surging domestic air traffic demands while enhancing passenger experience through improved infrastructure and design.

Key Upgrades and Features

  • Six New Passenger Boarding Bridges: Equipped with autonomous docking technology, these bridges will also feature wheelchair-accessible ramps, swing doors for safety, and cushioned side covers for aesthetics.
  • Advanced Infrastructure: Enhancements include modernized HVAC systems, fire safety mechanisms, smart washrooms, and improved road connectivity.
  • Aesthetic and Operational Improvements: Skylights, modern ceilings, high-resolution Flight Information Display Systems (FIDS), and clear signage will improve passenger convenience and operational efficiency.

Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) CEO, Videh Kumar Jaipuriar, emphasized that these upgrades are essential to accommodate peak passenger volumes expected by 2025-26.
