The Ordo Iuris Institute and the Association of Polish Journalists organizes a debate on "The Crime of defamation and Freedom of Journalism". The discussion will be conducted around the study prepared by Ordo Iuris on this subject. His reviewer is Dr. Jolanta Hajdas, and the survey besides presents the issues described by CMWP SDP. The Ordo Iuris Institute and the Association of Polish Journalists invitation you to a debate on "The Crime of defamation and Freedom of Journalism" to be held 1 July at 5:00 p.m. at the Journalist's home in Warsaw (Foxal 3/5).

The starting point for the discussion will be the latest study prepared by Ordo Iuris, devoted to the analysis of defamation crimes (Article 212 of the Criminal Code) in Poland. This paper presents a legal and social problem, taking into account the current legal situation, the case law of national courts and the European Court of Human Rights. It discusses selected cases concerning media statements, public officials and citizens, as well as the consequence of the judiciary to allegations of defamation. The study stresses the request to increase transparency and proportionality in the application of criminal law on defamation – peculiarly in the context of the expanding force on the penalisation of alleged hatred speech.
