Skialpinism, or advanced mountain skiing, had long awaited this day. Today, this discipline had its Olympic debut. 18 players and players were allowed to compete at the games, including 2 representatives of Poland. Unfortunately, Lieutenant Iwonie Januszyk and Jan Elantkowski failed to advance to the semi-finals of the sprint.
A typical of the Central Military Sports squad made her debut at the Olympic Games in the 3rd qualifying run on the way in Bormio. With Lt. Iwona Januszyk by 3 leading places, which guaranteed a pass to the semi-finals, and by the best time possible (advances to the further phase of competition gained 3 best players from 3 elimination gears and 3 of the best sometimes from the remaining places) fought: Italian Giulia Murada, Spanish Ana Alonso Rodriguez and Maria Costa Díez, and Chinese Yuzhen Cidan and German Helena Euringer.
The 3rd elimination run was won by Murada, who defeated the way in 3 min 17.63 pp. The second, with a failure of 0.65 s, was Alonso Rodriguez. On the another hand, from her 3rd position, she secured a promotion to the Costa Díez semifinals. The second Spanish female lost to Italian by 9.12 p.m. The 4th place was the Chinese woman, the 5th German woman, and the sixth Pole.
The 3rd of the gears was the slowest and no of his contestants were able to qualify for a further phase of competition with time. The fastest was the first run and out of it in addition to the first 3 players managed to gain promotion with the 4th and 5th place. A 4th second-run athlete besides qualified for the semi-finals.
Cf. Januszyk moved from the start very strongly, but on a long run, which started the competition, Polka began to pull distant from rivals. It was unusual due to the fact that the typical of the CGM is known to be doing very well on the runs. The reason for the weaker attitude of the Polish player was explained after the run. In a conversation with a TVP athletics reporter, a tear-filled contestant admitted that after taking off a fewer centimetres of snow, she was stuck under a seal.
– I truly couldn't do anything about it. It's the incorrect service. It was terrible – the player said. Lt. Januszyk was upset and said that it was definitely the scariest day of her career. I've devoted so much to being here, so much time that I haven't spent with my son. And now I regret it very much, due to the fact that 1 thing that did not entirely depend on me completely excluded me from the competition, due to the fact that having snow under the ski, this ski is not going at all – added the athlete.
She besides explained that she had to run in a multi-jump. Polka inactive did not quit and fight to the end. However, she was angry due to the fact that she was left behind for players she had never lost to in her life. Jan Elantkowski besides failed to advance to the semi-finals, which over time took 5th position in the 3rd elimination run. The Pole lost 18.76 s to Swiss winner Arno Lietha. The second was Frenchman Thibault Anselmet and the 3rd was Norwegian Hans-Inge Klette.
Lt. Januszyk and Elantkowski will compete in Bormio in the mixed relay. Competition in the second competition of Skialpinism in the Olympic expression will begin on Saturday at 1.30 p.m.
