Law and Justice MP Dariusz Matecki was transferred to an oncology infirmary in Radom, said tv Republika. According to media reports, policy leaves much to be desired.
Matecki was detained by officers of the interior safety Agency on 7 March 2025 in the centre of Warsaw, close Warsaw Główna railway station. Then he was arrested on the Warsaw Służewiec. As a consequence of his preventive decision, the prosecutors moved him to Radom, where the infirmary ward is located.
Charges against Matecki
A PiS MP heard allegations of six crimes, mainly related to the Justice Fund and State Forests. The National Prosecutor's Office stresses that detention was essential due to legitimate concern about obstruction of justice and the request for preventive measures.
The main allegations include:
Setting 3 competitions grants from the Justice Fund to the Fidei Defensor Association and the wellness Friends Association.
The appropriation of over PLN 16.5 million, including the financing of unreliable invoices and payment of remuneration for fictitious employment.
Money laundering for a maximum of PLN 447.5 1000 resulting from misappropriation of funds from the Justice Fund.
Fictional employment in State Forests between June 2020 and October 2023, which allowed to get PLN 483,860 without actual employment.
On 27 March 2025, Matecki was transported by Prison Service officers to an oncology infirmary in Radom. tv Republika reports that his wellness is not the best, which may affect the further conduct of proceedings.
What happens next?
The decision to transport Matecki to an oncological infirmary raises questions about possible delays in the investigation. However, the EPPO stresses that the preventive measures have been applied in view of the hazard of obstruction of justice.
If the charges are confirmed, Matecki may face serious legal consequences, including prison sentences. The National Prosecutor's Office shall not preclude further detention in connection with this proceeding.
